Lewis joined the Freedom Works community in July 2018, he uses the coworking areas in both Hove and Worthing. Here's what he had to say!

In a couple of sentences, please describe your business?

I work as a freelance writer, director and development producer in TV and commercials. I specialise in comedy and drama, but have worked across several
genres / formats.

Who are your customers?

I primarily work for production companies – either responding to briefs, helping them create original ideas, or selling them a script or series of my own.

How long have you been running your business?

Terrifyingly, I’ve been in TV for almost 25 years, but I’ve been specifically freelancing as I do now since 2010.

What is your unique selling point?

I do a lot of work in the space between traditional broadcasting and short-form digital platforms: either helping young producers / companies achieve commissions or trying to guide the broadcaster towards new audiences.

Why have you chosen to work in a co-working community?

I don’t enjoy working at home. It’s not a discipline thing; it’s an attempt to stave off cabin fever. Plus it ensures I get washed and dressed of a morning rather
than just starting work in my pants.

What is the most important benefit to you of working from Freedom Works?

Trousers.

Did this surprise you?

Not at all. I’ve been working in shared / co-working spaces off and on since 2004. I’ve worn trousers nearly the whole time.

What is your proudest achievement to date?

I wrote and directed a web series way back when nobody was really making them and it got a very good review in The Guardian and was nominated for an Emmy Award. I’ve worked on much bigger and far more popular shows, but this remains a personal highlight.

Who is your business hero?

If I could have anyone’s CV it would be the legendary film director, Billy Wilder. Of my peers, I love what Stefan Golaszewski has done, writing shows like Him &
Her and Mum.

How do you spend your spare time?

Up until recently I would wander around Soho with an outdated Guardian stuck in my back pocket, drinking coffee, going to the movies in the daytime, then meeting friends for food, wine and gin. Then we had a baby and now I drive a Nissan Qashquai to Saltdean in the hope of finding somewhere to have lunch that has a high chair.

Where is your favourite place in Hove/Worthing/Chichester?

The sea. It’s all about the sea. But I also love The Dome Cinema in Worthing. And The Old Albion on Church Road is a great place for a Sunday roast.
